I have been using SPAM to download movies from youtube. It works really well, as my work currently blocks access to youtube, so I am able to download and save movies via proxy. I just enter the url of the video (found from google) and download directly to my pc

A record by no means. Most spammers these days register, spam, get banned all within an hour, I'd guess It's all up to how alert the mods (and fellow members) are.

I use SUPER. Its a video converter. www.erightsoft.com
In the website theres a bar on the to that says Free Services,

Hover your mouse over it and you will see a tab that says Download Google youtube videos and more.

Click on it, and scroll down the page and wait for the KEEPVID to load, simply copy the URL of the page where you can see the video and paste it in.

Now save it where ever you desire, just remember where you placed it.

You'll need to use SUPER to convert the downloaded file into any format you wish.

Super can converter mostly any file, video or music. into another format in which you can use for other programs, devices, etc.

Here the link for Super if you wish:

    http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html
NOTE: scroll down the page to find the download mirrors.

I hope you find this helpful!

I have been using the Firefox add on, and it works great. My problem is converting the Utube video.

Hey NICK/rocknick100: could you give brief stepXstep on how to convert a saved Utube video to something I can save to DVD or CD? I just can't get it to work, probably am doing something wrong. I don't need a long manuscript, just something to get me going in the right direction. Also, have you ever ripped music off a saved Utube video? That is really where I want to go. Thanks!

    Hey Ranchhand.

NOTE TO ALL WHO ARE INTERESTED I suggest printing this since its long and detailed!

AND Check off the instructions so that you won't lose where you left off, as this will require download time etc.

So you know what I'm about to explain will be similar to the last post, but SUPER let you encode the file so that it is in audio format and you can remove the video if you wish, or Vice Versa..

Ok well I'll give you a good start and a step by step instructions to get you going on the right direction:

If you do not have the program SUPER(C) go to step on, otherwise skip to step 2.

    1. For this, you will need SUPER(C),

    http://www.erightsoft.com/S6Kg1.html

You will need to find in these pages, "download and use SUPER" , the download links are at te bottom of the third page, IDK why they make it so hard to find.

When you download it, save it to My Documents or Desktop.

Next install the program just as you would for any other program.

    2. Downloading the YouTube Video:

    Go to this website: http://www.erightsoft.com/KVk.html

At the bottom of this page there will be a Sign that says KEEPVID in green lettering.

NOW, Open a new webpage OR tab, go to the YouTube video you want to download. Copy the URL on the Address Box on top, whether you use FireFox Or Internet Explorer it'll still be up there.

Next Paste the URL into KEEPVID.

On the right of where you just pasted the URL there will be a "DOWNLOAD" Button.

Click on it and download the file Into My Documents.

3.Encode it to anything you want! with SUPER!
Now for this step I will be very detailed.

Open SUPER up. it should load up in a min or less.. depending on you computer.

When it opens up, You will see on the top 3 different boses, with a drop down list.

The First one is asking you for, Which FORMAT should I encode your file to?

Choose a format (particularly MP3 if you want audio only Ranchhand)

NOTE: The Second and Third Boxes on the top will change themselves as you click on a format in the first box. you may change them if you wish.

Now at the second row you will see VIDEO, you can configure this is you want to, but you can also disable if you wish.

The Third row will show you AUDIO, you can change the Bit rate/s if you want better quality, the higher the better, but also larger.

Then there will be a Row called OUTPUT.

Ignore this as it only states what the program is doing and etc.

The rest of the Windows has and empty box, in it Drag and Drop the YouTube file you just downloaded earlier.

Now After you dropped the file into the list, Click on "Encode (Active Files)"

It should encode, if it gives you an error, try check marking the box on the top that says "Use DirectShow"

Now If everything went fine and it Encoded Successfully, you will want the Encoded file right?

Well its in this folder, Go to C: \ Program Files\ erightsoft \ SUPER\ Output\

Or simply search the file , Keyword Output..

This should Help, also will save you time.. !!!!

NOTE: When the program is encoding, it will slow you computer down, significantly! Do not open anything while it encodes, it could cause your computer to freeze.

    I hope this way works!!

I have other ways to do this, but it would require extra cables, programs and etc. I do not want anyone using extra money if you can use a simpler, free way!

    -Nick-

Hey Rocki, thanx!! When I get home I will step thru it, looks perfect. I appreciate your work, I know how long it takes to put something like this together. Thanks again, and I am sure my son will be grateful; he is an avid guitar player and is carefully studying Jimmi Hendrix fingering and harmonic techniques. He spends long hours on Utube watching all the Hendrix videos he can, and this way he can make a collection of them and burn to DVD. Then if he wants he can rip the music only. Thanks again! I owe you one!

Nice tutorial..... very often I find SPAM is easier to use. It's simply one program that does all - download, convert, extract, view the youtube video, etc....

btw, it can be downloaded from SPAM
    Hope this helps.

If its not in there, here's what I think BitPim will do also as a default, otherwise, keep on reading as I will explain how to tell Super where to download it,

Oh and uh, excuse my Typos in my Tutorial. and thanks for the comments guys!

Ok, so either if you can't find it in the output folder, try checking inside of your Hard drive, where all of the main folders are. I.E. Program Files, WINDOWS, Users, etc. normally this would be C:\, unless you've got a different hard drive location.

If not, Open up Super, and right click on an area where there isn't anything there, for instance a blank area of the Window.

You'll see in the menu OUTPUT File Saving management.

Here is where you'll be able to Tell SUPER where to put your converted files.

NOTE: I realized that I forgot to add, that SUPER will automatically name it with the ORGINAL extension. I suggest you remove that.

I.E. Original file name, is MYVID.mpg <- only shows up as MYVID

After you convert it to, lets say, MP3, you will see this: MYVID.mpg <- rename it and take out the .mpg, since .mp3 is already in it, its just hidden.

    Hope this helps guilong. 8)

I've NEVER used any program to 'capture' a youtube video.

I just play it all the way through. Then browse 'Tempory Internet Files'. Copy the flv to another folder, rename as neccessary and convert it using Super.

Getting the files from 'Tempory Internet Files' was an option in the past but sometime last year I think they made a change at Youtube so the file now downloads as get_video to a subfolder in:

    C:\Documents and Settings\loggedinuser\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\foldername

with foldername being an 8 character name comprising of upper case letters and numbers.

If that is too much of a bother for you, there is a program called YouTube Downloader which can download Youtube files, one note it does not run on Windows Vista.
    Everyone lies.

The innocent lie because they don't want to be blamed for something they didn't do, and the guilty lie because they don't have any other choice.

  24. I just had to register and say that this SUPER website is a frickin joke....It just has you go in circles trying to download their SUPER software.

And yes I followed all the links and instructions from this site and still nothing...

Whats up with that...if its so great why make it so hard to find and download.

If anyone has a copy, and can email me a direct download link...Id like to give it a try

Yes, it is a pain and takes you through several screens to get there, but if you actually look at the pages you will find the links at the bottom of the third or forth page. Also, if you bother to read the pages, you will see that their servers are currently overloaded. Finally, if you were even the slightest bit patient, you would see in our tools section that this site hosts a mirror of the software that is only a single click away. It doesn't get much easier than that (thanks, Baldrick).

That said, I don't think SUPER is worth the effort any longer. The output is generally inferior to other tools, and the program has too many other problems. You could try alltoavi instead, or even give the new Quick Media Converter beta a try.
    Read my blog here.

I've been using an online way to capture youtube videos called http://www.captureyoutube.net - Works well, it's free and does all the converting on the server. Might want to give it a try.

BTW - The Vidoes look OK on my Tv too with the Xbox 360.
